Lacrosse first appeared in Latvia in 1992 year as interkross. The first actual lacrosse activities started in the summer of 2002. Latvia now has 8 lacrosse clubs. The oldest is Mītavas lacrosse club, which operates in Jelgava. There are also four Lacrosse Clubs in Riga - "Riga", "RJTC", "Archer Lacrosse" and "Suņi". And Lacrosse Club "Druvas Dynamite" in Saldus district , Valmieras Puikas in Vidzeme and Lacrosse Club "Libava" from Liepāja . LLF is actively working on developing new clubs in other Latvian cities.
The Latvian Lacrosse Federation (LLF) was founded in 2003 and is member of the Federation of International Lacrosse and the European Lacrosse Federation, as well as the Latvian Sports Federation Council. The LLF coordinates the development of lacrosse in Latvia, by organizing the Latvian lacrosse championship and international friendship games; hosting tournaments, camps, the training of judges.
The Latvian National men's Team has appeared in the European and World Lacrosse Championships since 2002, when the Latvian team debuted at the European Championship Newcomers Tournament. Team Latvia has participated in the 2004 and 2008 European Lacrosse Championships, and the World Lacrosse Championships in 2006 and 2010, and intends to participate in the 2014 World Championship in Denver.
The Latvian National women's Team has appeared in the European and World Lacrosse Championships since 2012. Team Latvia has participated in the 2012 European Lacrosse Championships, and the World Cup in 2013.
